Ardent Staffing Solutions is actively seeking a highly skilled NPI Mechanical Technical Specialist to support our client’s robotics development team in Waltham, MA. This is a hands-on contract role focused on building, testing, and improving custom motor and actuator systems that power cutting-edge robotics. What You’ll Do as an NPI Mechanical Technical Specialist – Motors:
- Assemble, test, and troubleshoot complex electromechanical systems including motors, actuators, gearboxes, and structural components.
- Follow and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical work instructions with precision.
- Support prototype builds and early-stage product introduction (NPI) efforts for next-generation robotic systems.
- Operate CNC and manual machines to fabricate parts and assist with tasks such as potting, laser etching, and bending.
- Set up and improve mechanical fixtures to ensure repeatable, accurate assemblies.
- Collaborate with engineers to develop documentation for standardized build processes and custom tooling.
- Perform root-cause analysis on mechanical failures and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain clean, calibrated workspaces and assembly/test stations.
- Utilize PLM and MRP systems to manage parts and build history.
What You’ll Bring:
- 5–7 years of mechanical assembly experience in robotics, aerospace, motorsports, or similarly demanding industries.
- In-depth knowledge of electromechanical systems, including actuators, motors, gears, and bearings.
- Strong skills in mechanical troubleshooting and conducting tests with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency using hand tools, mechanical measurement instruments, and reading complex technical drawings.
- Experience working with CNC machines, fixtures, and CAD platforms like SolidWorks or CATIA.
- Ability to thrive in fast-moving, collaborative engineering environments with shifting priorities.
Bonus Skills:
- Experience with robotic cable routing, soldering, crimping, or over-molding.
- Fabrication background including machining, welding, or equipment repair.
- Familiarity with bipedal robotics or high-reliability systems (A&P, CNC repair).
- Prior involvement in production ramp-up or scaling prototype builds.
