Job description

Position Summary:

The Quality Engineer serves as the subject matter expert on quality systems. This is a hands-on role focused on ensuring all manufactured parts meet customer and regulatory expectations. The Quality Engineer is responsible for identifying, resolving, and preventing quality issues while maintaining compliance with the latest interpretations of quality standards such as AS9100 and ISO 9001.

Key Responsibilities: Engineering Support

  • Provide quality engineering support to manufacturing operations, ensuring consistent implementation of quality practices.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve quality issues through root cause analysis and corrective action.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by promoting problem-solving methodologies and lean principles.
  • Develop and submit PPAPs in alignment with customer specifications.
  • Participate in FMEA development and facilitate Measurement System Analysis (MSA).
  • Conduct and analyze process capability and stability studies, recommending improvements as needed.
  • Monitor pre-launch production trials and ensure product quality from the outset.
  • Serve as the voice of the customer to uphold expectations and resolve quality concerns in coordination with internal departments.

Quality System Management

  • Recommend and implement improvements to the quality system to boost performance, customer satisfaction, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Ensure compliance and preparedness for internal and external audits:
  • Lead the internal audit program, including planning, training, execution, and reporting.
  • Coordinate third-party certification and surveillance audits.
  • Oversee document control systems, ensuring all procedural changes meet certification requirements.
  • Participate in quality metrics reporting and management review meetings:
  • Maintain periodic review schedules and report on quality KPIs.
  • Present data-driven insights and recommendations for improvement.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work cross-functionally with Engineering, Sales, Purchasing, and Production to address quality challenges.
  • Engage with customers and suppliers to resolve issues and promote continuous improvement.
  • Interview and manage external consultants to support process enhancements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Manufacturing preferred)
  • 3–5 years of experience managing a certified quality management system (AS9100 and ISO 9001)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of manufacturing processes
  • Demonstrated success in driving quality improvement initiatives
  • Experience in customer quality assurance and quality audits

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Lead Internal Auditor
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles (e.g., Kaizen, 5S)
  • Project management experience
  • Proficient in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Understanding of U.S. and EU regulatory standards (REACH, RoHS, Prop 65)
