Tax Accountant – Public Accounting – Hourly Rate to 40/hr – NYC

- The Temporary Tax Accountant will support the accounting team during tax season. The firm offers a full range of services including accounting, tax, computer consulting, and financial and investment planning—while maintaining an old-fashioned commitment to personalized service. This role will involve preparing individual and small business tax returns (1040s), performing data entry in ProSeries, managing bookkeeping in QuickBooks, and utilizing basic Excel skills. The position will start part-time in December, transition to full-time in January, and include overtime through the end of tax season.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and process individual (1040) and small business tax returns
- Enter and manage client data accurately in ProSeries
- Perform general bookkeeping and reconciliations using QuickBooks
- Conduct data entry and organize client tax documentation
- Assist with electronic filing and review of returns for completeness and accuracy
- Support the accounting team with other seasonal tasks as needed
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience preparing individual and business tax returns in a public accounting setting
- ProSeries experience required
- Proficiency with QuickBooks and basic Excel (data entry, formulas, sorting/filtering)
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines during peak season
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
Schedule & Compensation:
- Part-time in December, transitioning to full-time with overtime from January through April
- Competitive hourly rate commensurate with experience
