Brake Press Operator
Sheet Metal Brake Press Operator — Temp-to-Perm (Pay: $25–$27/hour)
We’re seeking a skilled Sheet Metal Brake Press Operator for a temp-to-perm role. You will lay out, form, and finish sheet metal parts and assemblies to print, ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency on the shop floor.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and product specifications to determine bend sequence, tooling, and methods.
- Select appropriate gauge and material (e.g., stainless steel 304/316, #4 polished, 2B, aluminum) per specifications.
- Lay out and mark dimensions and reference lines; develop patterns using measurements or templates.
- Set up and operate brake presses and form rolls to achieve precise bends and tolerances.
- Perform finishing operations: trim, file, grind, deburr, buff, and smooth surfaces.
- Inspect parts for accuracy, fit, and finish; make adjustments to maintain quality.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area; follow standard work and safety procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED; equivalent experience considered.
- Experience operating a brake press in a sheet metal fabrication environment preferred.
- Ability to read blueprints and shop drawings; strong understanding of bend allowances and tooling selection.
- Basic math skills for measurement, fractions/decimals, and calculating bend deductions.
- Solid problem-solving skills; able to follow written, verbal, and diagram-based instructions.
- Effective communication for one-on-one and small-group settings.
- Comfortable using hand and power tools for fabrication and finishing.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly stand; frequently use hands to handle parts/tools; reach, climb/balance, stoop, kneel, and crawl as needed.
- Lift/move up to 25 lbs regularly, 10 lbs frequently, and occasionally up to 50 lbs (with or without assistance).
- Visual requirements include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
- Shop environment with moderate noise; occasional exposure to heights, fumes/airborne particles, and vibration.
- Proper PPE and safety procedures are required.
Schedule
- Full-time, 8-hour shift.
Compensation
- $25–$27 per hour, based on experience.
- Temp-to-perm position.
